The
Chimera Project
BLOOD:
Blood
has been premiered in Toronto to rave reviews. The common
thread
throughout the piece is that no matter what happens, the dancers keep
going - zeroing in on the perseverance of the human species.
“Blood is as disturbing as it
is mesmerizing, as physically challenging
as it is intellectually provocative.â€
-- The Globe and Mail
"I was working with splicing images,
stories and scenarios to zero in
on an intense state - a moment of aliveness that gives a clue as to
what we are really all about. In the movement creation I was working
with counter-intuitive methods that put dancers in a state of the
unknown - with occasional "cameos" of dance movements we recognize that
create a "home base" that dancers shift in and out of."

Vancouver, BC | The Contingency Plan
Caesura This
duet is inspired by the literary term referring to a pause that breaks
up a line of verse in order to convey meaning. Caesura creates an
intricate moving conversation punctuated by the many ways we take pause
in our daily lives.
The Contingency Plan
is a collective of three contemporary dancers, Vanessa Goodman, Jane
Osborne and Leigha Wald, who met while pursuing degrees in dance at
Simon Fraser University. Our mandate is to integrate communities by
creating an opportunity for audiences to fully engage in work that is
honest and sincere. As a collective we are committed to the versatility
required for contemporary performance and as such seek ongoing
opportunities to further develop and diversify our craft. Since our
inception in 2008 our primary focus has been the commissioning of
artists whose work inspires and excites us. Past commissions include
Serge Bennathan, Justine Chambers and Rob Kitsos, and our newest
commission is by James Gnam of The Plastic Orchid Factory. Last year we
were presented by The Society of Yukon Independent Dance Artists,
Dancing on the Edge, Dances for a Small Stage, BLiNK, BC Buds Spring
Arts Fair, Here Be Monsters, MACC Studio Theatre and Restless
Productions. In 2009 we co-produced the first two instalments of Here
to Go, a new contemporary dance series featuring three other emerging
companies in Vancouver. In October 2009 we self-produced SUBMERGED, an
evening of diverse contemporary dance and video, with the assistance of
a partnership from The Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre,
and funding from the British Columbia Arts Council. As individuals we
have also received funding from the Canada Council for the Arts and the
Yukon Advanced Artist Award.
Justine A. Chambers
is a Vancouver-based independent contemporary dance artist. She was a
principal dancer with Desrosiers Dance Theatre, a member of Diavolo
Dance Theatre in Los Angeles and has worked with a number of
independent choreographers both nationally and abroad. Chambers has had
her work presented by New Dance Horizons, Dance Saskatchewan, Dances
for a Small Stage, Series 8:08 Season Finale and DOTE. Chambers and
video artist, Josh Hite, are currently creating "Copy" an
interdisciplinary and participatory installation that explores
duplication, mimicry, degeneration and repetition by allowing dancers
and viewers to simultaneously co-create the piece as a whole.
