Le Recours aux forĂȘts, Prairie, Mountain. Davida Monk Mountain is a 20 minute quartet, the second of four works that comprise The Land Quartet. It explores a dramatically charged movement language expressive of the cold danger and remoteness of mountain heights wherein dancers express glacial and tectonic forces that slide, scrape, tremble, pile, shape and destroy. Choreographer Bio Davida Monk is a dance artist, choreographer and teacher. She began her career with Le Groupe de la Place Royale of Ottawa and was instrumental in the development of Le Groupe Dance Lab. Monkâs works have been seen in cities across Canada and in Europe. For 15 years Monk was Associate Professor in the Program of Dance at the University of Calgary. She is the Artistic Director of the Calgary dance company M-Body: mind and music in motion, and Artistic Director of Calgaryâs contemporary dance presentation and professional development organization Dancersâ Studio West. In 2009 Monk began work on The Land Quartet, a three-year creative project with four dancers and video, with the generous support of the Canada Council and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. |
