Calm Abiding
José Navas/Ipsita Nova
Dance Projects
Choreographer José Navas daringly combines high emotion with
strict
formalism. This creation which premiered at the 2006 Canada Dance
Festival and garnered Bhattacharya a nomination for Outstanding
Performance (Dora Mavor Moore Award), consists of pure dance and
complete abstraction and is fuelled by the belief that the simplicity
of movement can be more powerful than words. Calm Abdiing is a
co-production with the National Arts Centre.

AUSLĂNDER
A dance theatre piece by Martin
InthamoussĂș.
As a Uruguayan artist, I have had to face the problem of emigration of
my own country. Distance, thus, has played a very important role. The
virtual and the real start to be confused and fused. Distances are
shorter. The notion of distance, time and space change utterly. Changes
are reflected in the body and its quality in the movement. The body is
in one place but at the same time feeling being somewhere else. Fit in
one space but not belonging to that particular place. The Cartesian
duality starts fighting in our life, mind in one place, body somewhere
else.
AUSLĂNDER
in this way I will tell the story of many of
us who
had to
exile our countries to find a new identity that is not that of the new
country but not anymore the one from our homeland. Identity and how it
affects peopleâs behavior. Oppression and challenge. Missing
and
becoming part of the new world. Borders and feelings. Being at home or
becoming âauslĂ€nderâ.
